Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was released in a miserable state on the Nintendo Switch. There was a game-breaking bug, the frame rate was halved and the texture quality and resolution also took a hit.
Despite arriving a week later than the rest (and overlooking the state of this version), out of all the platforms – the Nintendo Switch release had the “biggest response” – with the creator, Koji Igarashi, revealing it sold “well above” expectations, in a recent interview with Famitsu (as translated by Oni_Dino of Nintendo Everything).
“The Nintendo Switch. Sales were well above our expectations. The game launched one week later on Switch than on other consoles, and I figured fans wouldn’t be able to wait the extra week for the Switch version, so that was unexpected.”
Apart from the large install base, Igarashi thinks the game’s success on the Switch might be linked to him developing games on Nintendo platforms before this, but more likely how the Switch is the only system capable of playing Bloodstained on the go.
