If there’s one common complaint about Destiny 2’s Solstice of Heroes event, it’s that the objectives can be just a little too grindy for some, especially if you’re trying to get a fully maxed armor set across all three classes.
The list of requirements is massive, and then to do it two more times for alternate characters? No thanks. But something appears to have happened for Destiny 2’s Solstice in 2020 to make that easier. For some people, at least.
Some players have found that after completing the first set of blue armor requirements and getting the “Majestic” legendary armor set on a character, that on their next character, they are getting twice the progress toward objectives. As in, one precision kill counts as two, one Crucible match counts as two, and so on.
Then, others who have quickly finished that set have found that they are getting triple progress on their third character.
Wow, so Bungie actually listened and lessened the grind for Solstice for those who run multiple characters? Awesome! (Update: they did, no sarcasm, see below).
Update: The “bug” is actually a feature that was just not announced. Not sure why everyone isn’t getting it, but make sure you have the full next level set before starting on others:
Also some more advice from me, trying to figure out why some people aren’t getting the bonus. It may kick in when you get your armor, and isn’t retroactive.
Original article follows below:
While this is indeed happening for some players, it’s not happening for everyone. I have heard from many players who report that even with the Majestic set, they are not finding they’re getting any kind of bonus progress on their other characters. I ran a poll of my hardcore Destiny readerbase last night and while 46% said that yes, they were getting bonus progress after finishing the blue set, 54% said they were not. That’s bug behavior, and there’s also the obvious fact that Bungie never mentioned this at all, when it would have been an obvious selling point for the event.
Last we heard about what’s going on is DMG responding to Mtashed saying that this “Doesn’t sound right.”
I don’t think this is what DMG is describing here, some sort of “lag,” as what he’s saying sounds like missing progress, not bonus progress, but again, this is behaving like a bug, not a feature.
The problem? The only thing Bungie can do now to not upset everyone is to “activate” this bug for all players. If you take the bug away, the players that had it will not be pleased. If you leave the bug in place, the players that don’t have it literally have a grind that’s 2x-3x as long as everyone else. That’s bad. But if it is a bug, simply “turning it on” for all players is likely a lot harder than it sounds. And this event is only a month long. I would not want to be in Bungie’s shoes trying to figure this out.
The easiest way to figure out if you have this bug “benefit” is to complete one blue set, turn in your armor to get it Majestic, then get blue armor on your next character and shoot a Dreg in the head. If it counts as two, you’re golden, if it’s one, may the grind have mercy on your soul.
I am about to go through this exact process right now. I got a late start yesterday so I have two more pieces to finish on my first blue set. Check back here in a bit to see if I’m one of the lucky ones. And for more information about this issue and what Bungie might be doing about it.
Update: I do indeed have the “bug,” thank god:
