A private Super Mario Twitter account possibly held by Nintendo has been discovered by fans, potentially adding weight to reports from earlier this year surrounding upcoming remasters on Switch.
The account in question carries the Twitter handle @SuperMario35th, currently showing a temporary name of ‘aaaaaaaaaaa’ with no activity. The account was registered in March 2020.
As reported by VGC, one user has discovered that it has a recovery email potentially linked to Nintendo. While the characters are naturally obscured for security reasons, they do fall in line with Nintendo’s ‘nintendo.co.jp’ web address. Interestingly, it would appear that both the official SplatoonJP and SmashBrosJP Twitter accounts use a very similar email address.
It’s impossible to confirm whether or not the account is indeed held by Nintendo at this stage, but if we were to assume that it is, the account could well become a place for the company to share news and other content surrounding its famous plumber’s 35th anniversary.
Earlier this year, reports from reliable sources claimed that Nintendo is planning to release remasters of “most of Super Mario’s 35-year back catalogue” on Switch to celebrate the occasion, including HD versions of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64, and a rerelease of Super Mario 3D World. Could these announcements finally be on the way, and will the news come from this newly-discovered account?
We’ll keep an eye on the @SuperMario35th Twitter account and make sure to let you know if it becomes active. Hopefully then we’ll discover whether or not it truly does belong to Nintendo.
