Ben Webley will expand the Culver-City based developer’s advertising, customer service, creative and user acquisition departments.
Mobile games company Scopely has named former Facebook Gaming exec Ben Webley as its chief marketing officer, the company revealed Tuesday.
In his new role, Webley will continue to build upon Scopely’s advertising, growth, customer service, creative and user acquisition departments, while expanding engagement with players.
“We felt it was important to have a leader with a holistic view and hyper-focus on connecting players with our games as we embark on our next phase as an organization,” said Tim O’Brien, chief revenue officer at Scopely. “Ben brings deep experience in gaming and mobile advertising as well as shares the same entrepreneurial mindset and orientation toward excellence that Scopely is built upon. He is a seasoned leader whose experience has provided him a unique perspective on the global games marketing ecosystem, and we are extremely excited to have him join our executive team.”
Webley’s work history includes overseeing global marketing for the games division at Facebook, while also serving in senior leadership positions at Zynga and Electronic Arts.
In his own statement, Webley called Scopely a “fantastic company with strong values, tremendous talent and a commitment to breaking barriers across the mobile games industry.” He added, “I am extremely enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring my perspective to the team to help further propel Scopely’s vision, and thrilled to work with the best in the business.”
Scopely was founded in 2011 and is known for offering multiple genres in the core gaming space such as casual titles Scrabble GO and Yahtzee, role-playing (RPG) game The Walking Dead: Road to Survival, action RPG game Looney Tunes World of Mayhem and massively multiplayer strategy title Star Trek Fleet Command.
In October of 2020, Scopely raised $340 million in Series E funding to further expand into new product categories and support the company’s continued mergers and acquisitions strategy. Since its inception, the company has achieved over $1B in lifetime revenue.
Headquartered in Culver City, Los Angeles, Scopely also maintains an international presence with offices in Spain, Ireland, the U.K. and Japan.
