In rather predictable fashion, Marvel’s Avengers has stormed to the top of the UK physical charts. Square Enix’s hero-based brawler beat out Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 to secure the summit, but it sounds like its numbers aren’t anything to write home about just yet.
As Games Industry reports, Avengers sold less than a third of what Marvel’s Spider-Man managed when it released back in 2018. Various factors bleed into this result of course — digital sales still aren’t taken into account despite being on the rise, and Avengers is designed to live on as an ever-evolving service game. All that said, it’s worth remembering that Spider-Man was and still is a PS4 exclusive. It’ll be interesting to see how well Avengers has done globally.
Meanwhile, Tony Hawk appears to be back on track. Sales were 448 per cent higher than the Hawk’s previous PS4 outing — the rather rubbish Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5.
Elsewhere, NBA 2K21 dribbles into third place, while the summer blockbuster that is Ghost of Tsushima remains steady in the top ten. It’s also worth noting that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has apparently made a bit of a comeback through various discounts at retail. The open world RPG re-entered in 11th.
